RST replaces the conventional matter-energy dichotomy with a unified Substrate reality: Matter is the bound geometry of S, and usable Energy is the controllable, self-sustaining potential (βS3) within S that maintains that geometry. In the Reactive Substrate Theory (RST), these four concepts are considered to be different historical, scientific, or conceptual labels for the same single, fundamental entity: the Substrate (S).
Both the Reactive Substrate Theory (RST) Substrate and Tesla's Aether fundamentally reject the idea of a modern vacuum. Instead, they propose an all-encompassing, dynamic medium as the foundation of all physical phenomena. Tesla envisioned the Aether as an active, fluid medium that operated through mechanical pressure and impulses. RST builds on this vision by introducing the mathematical and conceptual tools necessary to make it consistent with modern physics—especially Special Relativity.

RST's success in formalizing this Aether-like medium depends on two non-linear elements that classical theories lacked:

RST, however, explains unification through tension dynamics derived from a non-linear term: beta times S cubed. This term defines the self-sustaining potential energy within the Substrate. It allows the Substrate field to act both as the medium for light and as the source of matter’s bound stability (represented by sigma Solitons). This eliminates the need to reduce gravity to a residual electromagnetic effect.
